A Famous Adventurer’s Swiss Army Knife

Mike Horn has done a lot of things that push the boundaries of physical and mental strength, some of which include an 18-month man-powered circumnavigation of the world on the equator and a 2,000km/27-month solo circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle without motorized or dog transportation.

Now an adventurer like this knows what he wants on his Swiss Army Knife and it is said that the ONLY tool he uses on his Pangaea Expedition is the Mike Horn knife which is based on the Wenger Ranger model.

The Mike Horn knife is not just your ordinary knife made for cutting price tags on your newly bought wardrobe. This is serious stuff designed for survival in the harshest of conditions. Yes it lacks the tools you get from your average city-dwelling swiss army knife but it does what it is supposed to do really well. If you need a toothpick, just cut one out with the sharp blade.

Speaking of blades, there are two of them (one serrated and one straight), both of which are 4″ long and can be opened one handed. The serrated blade has a liner lock which require you to press on the red Wenger emblem to close the blade.

My favorite feature of the Mike Horn knife is the set of pliers which tucks in nicely in between the two blades. It has a mechanism that folds outward to reveal a set of needle-nose pliers, wrench, and wire cutter. The handle of the pliers are spring loaded which allow for a gorilla-grip squeeze.

Other features of the knife:

  • Flat head and Phillips screw bits
  • Crosscut metal file
  • Can opener
  • Reamer awl with sewing eye
  • Key ring
  • Eco-friendly, ergonomic handle
  • Carry pouch
