The name might be a little bit misleading because the Ridge Rest Solar sleeping pad from Therm-a-rest has nothing to do with charging electronics using the power of the sun. It’s a closed-cell sleeping pad with a heat-reflecting aluminized surface that replaces and improves on the older Ridge Rest Deluxe.
The Ridge Rest Solar sleeping pad is warmer and thicker than the Ridge Rest Deluxe. R-value is increased from 3.1 to 3.5 on the Solar. I doubt that it’s due to the reflective surface because R-value is something like the resistivity of heat transfer and the reflective surface deals with radiant heat but it’s a significant improvement considering there is no weight increase over the original Deluxe.
