A Camping Knife for Thick Wallets

surefire-delta

The SureFire Delta is a camping knife for the rich. It’s even more expensive than a Chris Reeve Sebenza Knife at approximately $425. No doubt it’s a cool knife: titanium handles, great design, a tough blade with long lasting edge retention and practical tools including a flat-head  screwdriver that doubles as a finger guard, a wire cutter/crimper that uses the back of the blade for leverage, a wrench for hex nuts ranging from 13/64″ to 1/2″, a cleverly designed cutter for quickly cutting through seatbelts, parachute cords, harnesses, etc, a window/ice breaker and reversible pocket clip.

However, there’s nothing the SufeFire Delta can do that a cheaper Leatherman multi-tool can’t. But it’s like Ferrari vs Toyota. There’s nothing that a Ferrari can do that a Toyota can’t and the price difference is huge. Still the Ferrari is more desirable than the Toyota, at least to many people. Maybe it’s the combination of price, performance and beautiful design that makes it something special. It’s not necessarily the number of functions because a Toyota can have more functions and yet the Ferrari can still be more desirable.

That’s what I think of the SureFire Delta survival/utility knife. It’s the Ferrari of knives and definitely not for everyone. It’s probably not meant to be anyway. There are plenty of camping knives competing in that market.
