Alpkit Numo Sleeping Pad – Thin and Light

alpkit-thicknessAt just 16.5 ounces, Alpkit’s Numo Sleeping Pad is just about lighter than the Gold Award winner (at the European Outdoor Tradeshow 2010), Exped SynMat UL (16.6 ounces).

I love what Alpkit wrote as their description of the Numo:

“The day had been a long one, tea of sorts had been eaten and the bike kind of cleaned. Jon was looking forward to a good night and with his legs still striped with mud he crawled into his bag and cinched up the hood. As he closed his eyes and listened to the makeshift campsite retire for the evening he couldn’t help but join in the giggles as the odd balloon pop echoed up into the night sky.”

Why? Because it’s a story and I love stories. I could imagine myself at the campsite as I read it, which made me want to know more of what the Numo is all about.

It’s one of the lightest inflatable camping pads around (and unbelievably thin when not inflated). It’s not as light and as small as Klymit’s (9 ounces) little wonder but probably a lot warmer as a standalone camping mattress. I would imagine that using it in combination with Inertia X-Frame pad would give you unrivaled comfort  for just 25 ounces. Thermarest’s most comfortable pad, the Dream Time (Large) is a whopping 5 pounds heavier compared to the combined weight of the two pads.

The Numo provides a generous 2.75″ of padding and the tough TPU coated 33D Ripstop Nylon construction gives you peace of mind. Inside the upper portion of each tube is a hollow fill fiber which improves insulation tremendously by preventing air movement.

The dimensions (in cm) are 180 x 49 (tapering to 43) x 7 with a realistic rolled size (in cm) of 41 x 8.5. Priced at £40.
