The star of “Man vs Wild”, Bear Grylls, has been designing a couple of camping knives for Gerber lately but it turns out that he also designed a parang, the Malay equivalent of the machete. A parang is particularly useful for woodier vegetation like in Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia.
Traditional parangs usually have a wooden sheath and handle. The Bear Grylls Parang has a handle with a texturized rubber grip, finger guard, a blade made of high carbon steel and a lightweight military grade mildew resistant nylon sheath.
The Parang from Gerber will be available in February 2011 with a suggested retail price of $40. Available now for pre-order.
